The Northern Kentucky Algebra Community is a face-to-face and online professional learning community designed for teachers of Algebra in the Northern Kentucky region. The purpose of the Community is to create a sustainable network of teachers who reflect formally and informally on their teaching practices in order to more effectively teach Algebra. Face-to-face meetings will be augmented by online discussions and sharing of lessons. Discussions will focus on maintaining rigorous teaching techniques that promote high-level demands for student learning, where students explore and explain the nature of mathematical concepts and self-monitor their own cognitive processes, and engage in non-routine problem-solving through the stages of a mathematical task framework, while still gaining necessary and worthwhile skills for advancement beyond Algebra.
